1972 Wasp f.9723 UK XV628 : I was the mechanic on this aircraft, and onboard in the left hand seat when it crashed. We were returning to RAF Tengah at about 400ft when the pilot Lt Joseph transmitted a "Mayday" we descended rapidly spinning and out of control. I regained consciousness to find the missile aimers sight on my lap, sat in a heap of wreckage under palm trees. After freeing myself I released my SABRE aerial and within a few minutes a RAF Whirlwind appeared overhead and we were both airlifted to Changi hospital!
