1970-03-07 | 07mar70 as HMM-263 /EG-21 crashed into the sea off Phu Bai, Vietnam HMM-263 “ My name is Ed Bohan. I was a TAD gunner on CH-46D EG-21 which crashed into the sea off Phu Bai. Helicopter # was 154808, c/n # was 2415. The squadron was HMM-263, MAG-16 at Marble Mountain AF. The date was 7 Mar 1970. This info comes from The POP-A-SMOKE USMC Combat Helicopter and TiltRotor Assoc.and is accurate. Capt. Gates, 1st Lt. Kamura, Sgt. Smith and Cpl. Austin gave all that day and are not Forgotten. Capt. Gates is MIA, Never Forget! My brother John d.2011 -cancer 25th INT. DIV. awarded P.H., (booby trap), miss you Jake! Paul Collins d.2016 R.V.N. vet U.S. Army, Billy Fisher died from infection acquired V.N.,U.S. Army. Friends from my immediate Hyde Park,MA neighborhood all served in Vietnam, Billy Potter USAF F-4 weapons Off. Donnie Mullen,we enlisted together and were at same duty stations all 3 years. Stevie Henry, Paul Carter both USMC KIA RVN. Bob and Scott Munroe USMC, Jimmy Moore, Hughie, Frankie,and Jackie Connerty, Marty Guilfoy, Jimmy McGowan,Bob Kenney and Bobby Vance with US Army Infantry. Richie Flippen ,Frankie Fanning, George Johnson and Bobby Buckley all in the USMC. George Adams was KIA RVN shortly after Parris Island from Plt. 2039,1967, came from western part of MA. Eddie McCauley enlisted with Don Mullen and myself we all went to Cathedral High School in Boston with Richie Flippen who enlisted with Terry Kelly. Terry and Eddie were from Dorchester, Ma. Rich Gale came from Hyde Park but not my neighborhood, we worked at Fenway Park as vendors. One rough,tough,streetwise teenager, who gave All in the RVN and won the Navy Cross. Look up Navy Cross winners, Richie is on the list and it's worth the read. I always think it should have been the MOH but I know he still had to be a wiseass to his seniors but he always had your back when it hit the fan. I live in Florida now and love it but they can hang my ashes on a wall in the MA National Cemetery. I am proud to be from Boston and my Patriotic Neighborhood All gave some and some gave All ! ” | ||
