Originally built by the Italians in 1934 as Tripoli-Castel Benito. During the war it was captured by the British and became RAF Castel Benito in mid Jan 1943. It was renamed RAF Idris in 1951 and this closed as an RAF Station in Sep 1969. It was taken over by the Libyans and developed into Tripoli International Airport.
