Opened as a NATO fighter base with 3x RCAF units in Oct 1952 but the Canadians withdrew in 1964, as the French were positioning themselves to withdraw from the military structures of NATO.
The base stood unused until it was rejuvenated as an electronic warfare range. Although formally closed to flying around 1990, it has been used as the location for a small number of exercises since.
