Opened as a base of RAF Germany on 15 Jan 1952, RAF Wildenrath was one of three clutch stations in the British Sector, close to the Dutch border. It was home to a number of RAF fixed wing units and was also used by the AAC. Most RAF flying had ceased by Nov 1991 and the base formally closed as an RAF station in Mar 1992 and was handed back to German ownership. It is the site of a Siemens rail test track and some of the grounds are used for housing. |
