This was the definitive production version with a more modern Boeing T50-BO-12 engine, rated at 330 BHP. Tail section removed from the earlier
C model and the rotor blades changed to an all fiber glass blade made at Gyrodyne. Able to carry two Mk.44 homing torpedoes, depth charges, etc... Built under contract NOw 64(A)-0158-i, DS-1382 was converted from a C model to a D after three other C models had been converted and tested as YQH-50Ds. A total of 396 QH-50Ds were built, including (4) conversions from QH-50C, (377) for USN, (16) for JMSDF, (3) conversions to QH-50E NITE PANTHER, and the last (3) as private ventures.
