A link to the Osprey was reported as early as 2006 but in 2009 was announced that they decided to wait for the CH-53K instead.

On April 2013, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced a new weapons package deal including refueling aircraft, anti-radiation missiles, advanced radar for jet fighters and the Osprey to improve Israels ability to conduct commando and rescue operations. On October same year, Hagel confirmed that Israel will get 6 Ospreys out of the next order to go on the assembly line, and they will be compatible with other [Israeli defense force] capabilities.

On January 2014, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress the possible sale of 6 V-22B Block C aircraft to Israel valued $1.13 billion

On November 2014, Israeli news reports claimed that the order was cancelled allegedly in exchange for more F-35 Joint Strike Fighter airplanes and Apaches helicopters.

However, on September 2020 Israeli defense minister announced intentions to buy 12 Ospreys.
