The Agusta-Westland EH-101 was chosen as a replacement for the Sikorsky S-80M-1/MH-53E in JMSDF service since 1989. Fourteen MCH-101 were chosen for the aerial minesweeping/utility mission. It is uncertain of the MH/CH mix or if one MCH version will do both missions. The first one was built and tested in UK as ZK112, then dis-assembled and shipped to Kawasaki Heavy Industries for re-assembly and certification testing by JMSDF. To date, another one has been constructed by KHI and delivered to JMSDF. Further, two CH-101s have been delivered as well and are flying from Nagoya.  |
