Latvia Orders A109 Power For Border Guard

Latvian State Border Guard ordered 2 A109 Power fitted with FLIR, radar, rescue hoist, search light and a NVG compatible cockpit. They already operates





AgustaWestland, June 02, 2006 - gustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the Latvian State Border Guard representative, Gen. Eriks Ivanovs, Chief of Central Board of the Border Guard, belonging to the Ministry of the Interior, has signed on June 2nd 2006 a contract for two A109 Power helicopters.

Procurement of the helicopters is being financed by the European Community using Schengen Facility programme funds.

The A109 Powers will be used by the State Border Guard Aviation Service for patrolling the eastern European border and other law enforcement missions.

The Central Board of the Border Guard, under the Ministry of the Interior, launched the state tender competition for the acquisition of light twin helicopters in late 2005 and the A109 Power was selected as the helicopter that best met the requirements and conditions set out in the tender.

The Border Guard helicopters will be equipped with latest generation FLIR, radar, dedicated mission console, rescue hoist, search light and a Night Vision Goggles compatible cockpit.

The A109 Power is a highly versatile twin engine helicopter that is used for a wide range or civil and paramilitary roles and offers the highest levels of performance with low operating costs. The Law Enforcement and Maritime variant has achieved great success in the market place with orders placed from customers in Asia, America, Europe and Africa. In the USA the US Coast Guard operates the MH-68A Stingray, a customised version of the A109 Power, on anti-drug and homeland security missions. The military Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) variant of the A109 Power is already in service with customers in South Africa, Sweden and Malaysia, performing a wide range of roles.
