  • Flight Safety at the Heart of Our Business

Airbus Helicopters, February 28, 2017 - In Airbus, we cannot stress enough of the importance of product safety and quality. This mandate is so deeply etched in our minds that we literally breathe it, live it and FLY it.

To bring flight safety to home grounds, Airbus Helicopters in Japan has conducted a series of successful test flights, made possible by an experienced and dedicated team. The selected team fulfills the necessary requirements and has gone through specialised training of the safety dynamics.

The Airbus team in Japan has also introduced a new tool, Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) suite, to achieve the desired outcome.

The first “Category A* Flight Test” was conducted two years ago, together with the efforts from the central entity. Today, it has evolved into a full local package proudly planned and operated by Airbus Helicopters Japan field experts and the last three out of seven flight test campaigns are successfully executed by them. The last flight test was in November 2016.

For Fukuoka Prefectural Police Department and Kagawa Prefectural Police Department, the campaigns were executed using the AS365 N3+ S/N 7012 and H155 S/N 6995 from the Dauphin family respectively.

The scope of these flight test campaigns was limited to vibration and thermal characteristics measurement, but the customers received their respective aircraft with full Category A operational capabilities by drawing past data and eliminating the need to duplicate some tests or analysis that have been performed before.

With the success of the three “local” flight tests, the biggest advantage is the ability to deliver the aircraft without operational limitations, which greatly improves safety and enhances performance capabilities!

Helicopter Category A:

- Multi-engine helicopter designed with engine and system isolation features specified in the applicable airworthiness codes

- capable of operations using take-off and landing data scheduled under a critical engine failure and adequate performance capability for continued safe flight or safe take-off in the event of engine failure
