AgustaWestland, September 25, 2014 - AgustaWestland is pleased to be exhibiting its market leading range of commercial helicopters at Istanbul Airshow 2014, that is being held at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport from 25th to 28th September 2014.

AgustaWestland, which has the most modern range of twin-engine helicopters of any manufacturer, will be exhibiting the all new ten seat AW169 alongside the best-selling AW139 and GrandNew helicopters.

AgustaWestland’s has become the market leader in the Turkish commercial helicopter market supported by Kaan Air, AgustaWestland’s authorised distributor for civil helicopters in Turkey. The Turkish commercial helicopter fleet of AgustaWestland helicopters includes the AW119 light-single; AW109 Power & GrandNew light-twins and AW139 intermediate-twin. These types will soon be joined by AgustaWestland’s all new AW169 and AW189 helicopters in the 4.5-tonne and 8-tonne weight classes respectively.

GrandNew, High Performance & Versatility

The GrandNew features the most advanced avionics of any helicopter in its class while retaining the outstanding performance characteristics of the original Grand. The GrandNew is the first type certified light twin (CS/JAR/FAR 27) to enter service with a new EFIS featuring Synthetic Vision and the first helicopter in this class on the market fully compliant with the latest advanced global positioning system-based navigation requirements for all weather operations. The spacious cabin accommodates six passengers with a wide range of equipment, finishes and materials available to allow customers to tailor their cabin interior to meet their personal preferences.

Orders for almost 340 Grand and GrandNew helicopters have been placed by over 200 customers in nearly 40 countries worldwide to perform many missions including VIP/corporate transport, passenger transport, law enforcement, emergency medical service, SAR, harbor pilot shuttle, maritime patrol and water pollution monitoring.

AW169, New Generation Capabilities

More than 120 orders have been placed for the new generation AW169 intermediate class twin-engine helicopter to perform a wide range of missions including, air ambulance, law enforcement, corporate transport, utility and offshore transport. Deliveries of the AW169 will commence next year following civil certification. The AW169 is the first all new helicopter in its class for more than 30 years.

The AW169 cabin can accommodate up to 10 passengers or up to seven passengers in VIP configuration. The AW169 can be equipped with a cabin noise and vibration reduction system as well as a range of advanced in-flight entertainment and cabin lighting systems. When combined with the finest hand crafted materials the AW169 cabin will offer outstanding levels of comfort for passengers.

The AW169 is powered by two 1000 shp class PW210A turboshaft engines enabling the aircraft to cruise at more than 140 knots and provide vertical Cat.A/Class 1 capability as maximum all up weight, even in hot conditions. The AW169 is being certified in accordance with EASA CS-29 / FAR Part 29 latest Amendments and will be the only helicopter in its class to meet the very latest safety standards.

AW169 Cabin, Stylish High Tech Luxury In The Sky

Also on display at Airex is the innovative VIP cabin interior that was designed by Studio Lanzavecchia + Wai, the winning design from a dedicated contest held in Italy earlier this year. The AW169 VIP cabin also benefits from the partnership with Custom Control Concepts to deliver AW169 passengers with a true VIP experience through the SkyOne in-flight entertainment systems with real-time flight status and navigation information.

Twelve Ethernet ports offer connection to any combination of displays and switch panels for seamless connectivity throughout the cabin. Provisions are available for many custom device options including: HD video, stereo audio, video recording, satellite communications, cameras, lighting and shade control.

AW139, Unsurpassed Luxury

The AW139 is the new benchmark in its weight class for executive helicopters. Designed to meet the rigorous standards of those who demand the best, the AW139 surpasses all other intermediate twin-engine helicopters in capability, speed, ride quality and passenger cabin space. Its sleek design, state-of-the-art avionics, luxurious accommodation and low noise signature set new standards in the VIP transport market.

The AW139 delivers best-in-class performance with a cruise speed of 165 knots (306 kph), a range in excess of 500 nm (927 km), endurance of 5 hours and superior hover performance. With its power reserve, the AW139 assures Category “A” (Class 1) superior performance from a helipad (elevated or at ground level) at maximum take-off weight.
With the largest passenger cabin in its class the AW139 can accommodate its passengers in a spacious, comfortable and quiet environment. The unobstructed cabin design allows maximum flexibility for seating configurations whilst providing its passengers with excellent visibility through the six large cabin windows. Ample room is available for accessories such as telecommunications, work areas, refreshments and stowage space. The baggage compartment, provides a massive 3.4 cubic metres (120 cubic feet) of storage which is easily accessible from both inside the passenger compartment and outside the helicopter.

Orders for nearly 800 AW139s have been placed by more than 210 customers in over 70 nations to date. Nearly 700 units are already in service carrying out a wide variety of missions such as VIP/corporate and passenger transport, offshore transport, SAR/EMS, law enforcement, firefighting, government roles. The global fleet has recently set an outstanding milestone achieving 1 million flight hours in service worldwide.

Kaan Air

Kaan Air, which was founded in 2000 within the structure of Başarı Holding, is AgustaWestland’s authorised distributorship and authorised service center for civil helicopters in Turkey. A fleet of 27 AgustaWestland helicopters including the AW119Ke, AW109 Power, Grand New and AW139, are now operating in Turkey performing a wide range of roles including VIP and corporate transport, air ambulance, utility, aerial tours and filming.

In 2012 Kaan Air established a customer support facility and the biggest heliport in Turkey in the Ayazaga district of Istanbul’s business centre. The facility can accommodate 16 helicopters and currently there are 12 helicopters based at the heliport. Kaan Air has on order two AW169s and another AW139 which will be delivered in 2015.
