Airbus Helicopters, March 01, 2016 - LOUISVILLE, KY – Inadvertently flying into poor weather and visibility conditions remains one of the biggest hazards facing helicopter flight crews, but it’s a situation that Airbus Helicopters Inc. trains pilots to avoid and escape from.
Airbus Helicopters Inc. offers highly realistic Inadvertent Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IIMC) training at its facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The training is conducted using an AS350 Level B Full-Motion Flight & Mission Training Simulator, but the course is designed to be non-airframe specific, so it applies to all pilots.
The state-of-the-art simulator can be customized to allow for numerous settings and can provide realistic scenarios for all helicopter missions. The complete training program aims to improve safety for all helicopter operations. Pilots learn tools to avoid getting into IIMC, but also how to initiate a proper recovery if such conditions are encountered.
IIMC training is about teaching pilots how to react and improve their margin of safety if they get into deteriorated weather conditions and low visibility. Airbus Helicopters Inc. offers IIMC training to operators of all type helicopters as part of its strong commitment to improving safety in our industry,” said Anthony Baker, Vice President of Customer Support.
It was eye-opening, to say the least,” said Capt. Frank Peck of the Nebraska State Patrol, after completing the IIMC course. “I don’t want to be a statistic. Any training that could save my life is worth it. Whether you are a brand new pilot or have been flying for years, this is worth your time.”
