AWTA Malaysia Introduces AW139 Simulator
AgustaWestland, June 18, 2013 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that its Training Academy based in Malaysia (AWTA Malaysia) has introduced an AW139 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) Level D into its training courses.

The Training Academy is located at Kuala Lumpur's Subang - Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and is part of AgustaWestland’s continued investment programme in its subsidiary AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

The introduction of this advanced AW139 FFS with Level D capability, the first FFS simulator of an AgustaWestland helicopter type in Asia Pacific, is the result of cooperation between AgustaWestland, PWN Excellence Sdn Bhd of Malaysia and CAE. PWN Excellence Sdn Bhd, a partner of National Aerospace & Defence Industries (NADI), a major company in the Malaysian aviation sector, will manage the AW139 FFS which was jointly developed by CAE and AgustaWestland. PWN Excellence Sdn Bhd will provide simulation training hours to the AWTA Malaysia in order to support AgustaWestland's customers training requirements throughout Far and North East Asia, China and Australasia regions.

With the AW139 fleet rapidly growing across nations in this region, performing a number of roles including offshore and passenger transport, VIP/corporate transport, law enforcement, EMS/SAR, disaster relief, fire fighting, coast guard duties and electronic news gathering, it is expected that more than 4000 FFS “flying” hours will be reached annually.

The introduction of this AW139 FFS is the latest step in the continued enhancement and expansion of support and training services offered by AgustaWestland to its customers in the region. AgustaWestland is already taking bookings for training courses utilising the FFS in Kuala Lumpur. The FFS has been certified by the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCAM) and by EASA.

Opened in January 2012, the AWTA Malaysia offers a range of courses for the AW109 Power, GrandNew and AW139 helicopters and is planning to expand this to cover new types such as the AW169 and AW189 in the near future. Over 20 courses are currently available including type rating ground courses, general familiarisation type training courses and airframe maintenance type training courses, flight transition courses, recurrent training and proficiency checks. Local instructors have recently been recruited to support the increasing number and range of courses and services offered by AWTA Malaysia.

Training courses available at AWTA Malaysia are listed on the AgustaWestland website www.agustawestland.com/content/kuala-lumpur with the ability to enquire online.

AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of AgustaWestland, continues to play a major role in the Malaysian helicopter market expanding its presence and increasing its capabilities through a continued programme of investment. AgustaWestland Malaysia’s regional maintenance and support centre is a Malaysian DCA approved maintenance and repair organization. AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd provides local support and training for the growing fleet of AgustaWestland customers in the region.
