Airbus Helicopters, September 12, 2014 - Airbus Helicopters today delivered the first of 14 EC145 T2 helicopters to ADAC Luftrettung’s air rescue division, one of Airbus Helicopters’ largest European customers in the emergency medical services market segment.

The helicopter was handed over by Dr. Wolfgang Schoder, CEO of Airbus Helicopters in Germany.

“With this modern, quiet and powerful helicopter, we make an important step into the future of air rescue. The EC145 T2 is an enormous asset for patients, crew and the environment,” said Thomas Burkhardt, vice president for technology at ADAC.

ADAC is gradually modernizing its fleet of 51 helicopters through 2018 and will also replace its 17 BK117s.

The EC145 T2 will operate mainly at ADAC rescue sites where the helicopter’s power and performance play a critical role in winching operations and intensive-care missions.

The helicopter will be EMS-equipped during the next three months and will begin operations at the start of 2015.

Enhancements incorporated in the T2 version of the 4-metric-ton category EC145 include new dual-FADEC Arriel 2E engines and the company’s signature Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor, along with upgraded main and new tail rotor gear boxes, and an advanced cockpit that uses Airbus Helicopter’s innovative Helionix® digital avionics suite with 4-axis autopilot.

The EC145 T2 was certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Spring 2014. More than 100 orders have already been placed for the new helicopter, which was developed and manufactured in Donauwörth.

Four EC145 T2s have been delivered to date: one to ADAC Luftrettung, two to the German rescue organization DRF Luftrettung, and one to Scandinavian Air Ambulance, which operates in Sweden and Finland.
