Exercise Joint Warrior 17-1 Commences
US Navy, March 26, 2017 - FASLANE, Scotland – USS Carney (DDG 64) got underway from Faslane, Scotland March 26, 2017 to begin the underway portion of Exercise Joint Warrior 17-1 off the coast of the United Kingdom.

Joint Warrior is a semi-annual, U.K.-led multinational exercise.

The exercise is designed and led by the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff in the U.K. It is intended to improve interoperability between allied and partner navies and prepares participants for a role in a joint maritime environment during deployments.

U.S. Navy units involved in Joint Warrior 17-1 include: the guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64), the dry cargo/ammunition ship USNS Robert E. Peary (T-AKE 5), and two P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft from Patrol Squadrons 45 and 16.

“Joint Warrior is a tremendous exercise and Carney is privileged to get the opportunity to participate. Exercises like this are vital for NATO and her partners in the region. Practicing together in realistic scenarios and becoming more and more familiar with joint operations will improve the capability of every ship involved and increase our ability to preserve stability in the region.”, Cmdr. Peter Halvorsen, commanding officer, USS Carney (DDG 64)

"As VP-45 closes out a seven month deployment, we are proud of our performance as the first P-8 squadron to deploy to the U.S. European Command area of operations. We operated from 11 European countries and I can honestly say that our Sailors are pleased to participate in JOINT WARRIOR because of the opportunity to return to their favorite detachment site: RAF Lossiemouth, Scotland.", Cmdr. Ryan Lilley, commanding officer, Patrol Squadron 45

Joint Warrior will provide forces with a variety of training scenarios that explore real-world challenges on a strategic, operational, and tactical level in a controlled environment.

Nations scheduled to participate in Joint Warrior include: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
