Lockheed Martin, July 22, 2015 - Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Marillyn Hewson and Dale Bennett, Executive Vice President of Mission Systems and Training (MST), were greeted with enthusiasm and excitement Tuesday at the Sikorsky Headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut, where they met with employees and toured the facility.
“After touring Sikorsky’s operations and spending time with their employees and leadership team, I’m even more excited about welcoming them to the Lockheed Martin family in the coming months,” Hewson said. “I am very impressed by the expertise of their team, the efficiency of their operations and the passion of their employees. Lockheed Martin announced on Monday, July 20, that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sikorsky, a world leader in military and commercial rotary-wing aircraft.
Hewson and Bennett met with Sikorsky President Bob Leduc before touring the manufacturing operations. The tour included a first-hand look at Blackhawk and Seahawk helicopters on the assembly line, the aircraft flight test and delivery hangar, and the very impressive Systems Integration Labs for the CH53-K and S-97 Raider helicopters.
The CH-53K is a premier heavy lift helicopter engineered for a full range of military operations for the U.S. Marine Corps.
The S-97 Raider is an attack helicopter platform that can reach speeds more than 220 knots, flying as high as 10,000 feet. It has multi-mission capabilities that will meet both conventional U.S. Army and Special Operations future requirements in various combat roles.
After touring the facility, Hewson and Bennett met with more than 200 Sikorsky leaders, where they expressed their enthusiasm to soon welcome Sikorsky to the Lockheed Martin team.
Hewson talked about how Sikorsky is a natural fit for Lockheed Martin, and highlighted how both Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin were founded by aviation pioneers with a longstanding legacy of innovation and serving customers globally.
“Sikorsky aligns closely with MST, and we have been partnering for more than 40 years on programs such as the VH-92 Presidential Helicopter, Combat Rescue Helicopter and the Naval MH-60 Helicopter,” Bennett said. “Their world-class military and commercial helicopter expertise as well as their expansive international footprint will be a great addition to our business area and overall portfolio.”
In addition to the leading products Sikorsky partners with Lockheed Martin on, it is also world-renown for its Blackhawk helicopter that 25 nations depend on for multi-mission support. Sikorsky helicopters are used by all five branches of the United States armed forces.
The Sikorsky acquisition is expected to be completed by late fourth quarter 2015 or early first quarter 2016.
