First two Marinha MH-16s arrived to Brazil

Brazilian Navy, July 30, 2012 - Automatic Translation - They arrived today July 30 at the Cabo Frio International Airport the first two MH-16 helicopter "Seahawk" for the Navy of Brazil (MB).

The helicopters arrived disassembled, transported by a C-17 of the U.S. Air Force. After being assembled will be conducted in flight by pilots of Sikorsky Aircraft to the Naval Air Station São Pedro da Aldeia where they will perform the final acceptance tests. The official incorporation to the Marinha will take place on the Naval Aviation anniversary on August 23.

These aircraft were acquired from Sikorsky in a batch of six helicopters with the agreement concluded in May 2008 with the U.S. Government. They will replace the SH-3A/B "Seaking" which provided good services for over 40 years.

The new MH-16 aircraft belong to the First Squadron Helicopter Anti-Submarine (HS-1) and will be used for the benefit of the Naval Forces, the Amazônia Azul (Blue Amazon) with the ability to perform tasks of detection, localization, tracking, identification and attack of surface and submarines targets as well as search and rescue actions.

The MH-16 has structural and design features that give it more strength, endurance and reliability, such as redundancy of systems, flight control and hydraulic systems, and ballistic tolerance of the main rotor blades to fire rounds up to 20 mm
