Brazilian Navy, September 12, 2016 - In order to ensure and enhance safety in air operations, the Dock Multipurpose Ship (NDM, Navio Doca Multipropósito) "Bahia" held its first Aviation Safety Qualification (VSA, Vistoria de Segurança da Aviação) by the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents Section of the Brazilian Navy Surface Force Command.
With the presence of Squadron HU-2, which operates the Super Cougar UH-15 (H225M/EC725BR Caracal), were conducted several landing and take-off exercises with simulations of accidents, rescues, pick-up and VERTREP (Vertical replenishment) manoeuvres.
The NDM "Bahia" has two landing spots and a hangar being able to launch and collect up to three aircraft simultaneously. Approval of the VSA is the first step towards getting the ship to full operational status, which will lead to a significant increase in the capacity of the fleet air operations.
