Axalta, May 06, 2015 - PHILADELPHIA - Axalta Coating Systems, a leading, global manufacturer of liquid and powder coatings, is privileged to have its Imron Aviation coatings used to repaint a refurbished helicopter for Sikorsky Helitech in Australia.

Sikorsky Helitech is the world leader in the design, manufacture and service of military and commercial helicopters.

The model S-92 helicopter, originally intended for off-shore work, had been converted to a specialized SAR configuration. It was originally designed to transfer personnel from oil rigs but was re-commissioned to serve as a Search and Rescue Helicopter.

It is the largest helicopter used in the southern hemisphere and was subject to very strict specifications for coating applications. Axalta’s Imron Aviation coating was chosen because of its durability in salt air and its ability to overcome issues associated with color variations and differing substrates. The result was a sensational high-shine finish.

“Our Imron range is designed to deliver consistent, premium-quality results with superior durability for today’s commercial transportation vehicles,” said Mike Cash, President of Axalta’s Industrial Coatings business. “Axalta’s products are designed to meet tough standards, but none more so than the harsh environments encountered by a rescue helicopter. We’re proud to display our coatings on such an iconic craft.”

Axalta’s aviation products are designed and tested to exceed the most stringent standards for appearance and durability, while maintaining environmental compliance.

Axalta’s Imron is an industry-leading polyurethane coating that is designed to deliver consistent, premium-quality results with superior durability, longer gloss retention and premium appearance. Aircraft painted with Axalta aviation coatings are designed to reduce customers’ operational costs because they can require less finish maintenance over time.

“In my time photographing choppers, which is over 30 years, I have never seen a paint job as good as this one,” said Ned Dawson, photographer for HeliOps Magazine.

An extensive offering of solid, metallic and pearlescent colors are available in Imron single stage and basecoat colors designed to deliver a high gloss, long-lasting finish to keep assets looking great longer.
