Dakota Air Parts Begins Uplift of New Zealand Hueys
Dakota Air Parts, March 01, 2016 - FARGO, ND - Dakota Air Parts Intl., Inc. has announced that it has started the uplift process to remove and ship the former Royal New Zealand Air Force UH-1 Iroquois aircraft and related equipment back to its facilities in the United States.

After nearly 50 years of active service in No. 3 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) the Iroquois were taken out of service and offered for sale along with associated parts and equipment through an international tender process in 2015.

Dakota Air Parts was chosen as the successful respondent. “Dakota Air Parts is honored to be the new custodians of the Iroquois fleet,” said Shawn Johnston, Director of Marketing for Dakota. “The RNZAF has a well deserved reputation for outstanding maintenance of their aircraft and the condition of the Iroquois aircraft, parts inventory, and associated equipment proves that.”

The uplift process is expected to take a number of weeks as the RNZAF was a significant operator of UH-1H and UH-1 model helicopters and maintained a significant amount of parts, tooling, and associated equipment to keep its fleet operational.

The entire UH-1 Iroquois package represents a significant amount of material including:

- 10 airframes, 6 of which were maintained as flyable aircraft until their retirement from the squadron
- A large spares inventory including T53 turbine engine spares, drive train components and main rotor blades – many items in new condition
- Extensive tooling, test equipment
- Mission equipment
- Fuselage and tailboom jigs for heavy maintenance

The UH-1 material will be shipped to Dakota’s warehousing in Phoenix, Arizona next to the facilities of its strategic partner, Air Services International, an FAA Part 145 repair station. As a well known source for UH-1 parts and components, Dakota will use this inventory to enhance its ability to support UH-1 operators globally.
