Headquartered in Rome Italy, the MFO is an international peacekeeping force formed outside the framework of the United Nations for overseeing the terms of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

Established in 1981, participating countries include: United States ( 1st US Army Support Battalion USASB, Task Force Sinai ), Canada ( Operation CALUMET ), Australia, Italy, Colombia and Uruguay.
