Crews from many NATO nations (including USA and Canada) used to exchange operating experience and practices at this once-annual event, whilst competing in Scramble, Navigation and Precision Winching techniques for the Henri Dunant Trophy. The 6th competition was staged in the UK at RNAS Lee-on-Solent in early Jul 1972. There were 12 teams, each of two crews and airframes, from 8 nations. For the Royal Navy, Wessex HAS.1 XM845 was held as a spare airframe.
As it turned out, this was the last of the annual International SAR events organised.
