Officially established December 3rd 1950. Prior helicopter training was made by HU-2 at NAS Lakehurst. HTU-1 started with Bell HTL-4 and Hiller HTE-1/-2 trainers, and went on to fly the service-type Sikorsky HO3S-1 and Piasecki HUP-2 in the advanced stage. The HTEs were removed by late 1952 and the Sikorsky HO4S replaced the HO3S as an advanced trainer in mid-1957. Also that year the unit is redesignated Helicopter Training Group 1 ( HTG-1 ). early 1955, we flew the Bell HTL-6 / H-13 Sioux and the Piasecki H-25 / HUP-3 Retriever
We had no Sikorsky in the square in 56 58. We bells, Kaman, hup2. We had SNB-5 and a T-28.
We had no Kaman or Sikorsky on board in 1954 to 1956. The only choppers we had at time where Bell 4,5 6 and Hup 2 at that time. I left HTU 1 Aug56. Reported to VS-27 Aug56 to Aug58 . Discharged In 1958
