The 711 SAR Squadron was created in 1993, by the merger of 752 SAR Squadron with 4 SA330 Puma helicopters with 503 Transport Squadron with 5 C-212 Aviocar planes, it was disbanded when SA330 Puma and C212 Aviocar become out of service. Now their area of responsability is taken by 751 SAR Squadron with EH101 Merlin that maintains a permanente detachment in the Azores with rotating crews.
