Formed at Gibraltar in May 1943, with target towing Defiants. It disbanded in Malta in Dec 1944. Reformed as an Air Experience unit in Apr 1946 at Gosport where it disbanded again in Jan 1950. Reformed at RNAS Brawdy in Jan 1956 to provide Air Experience for Royal Naval College cadets from Dartmouth.
2 Dragonfly HR.5 were added to the strength in Sep 1958 for further experience but these were handed over to the Britannia Helicopter Flight in Jun 1960, before the unit disbanded again in Dec 1960.
Reformed in Dec 2001 at
Plymouth, it inherited the Flying Grading task of the Britannia FG Flight and its long heritage with the Chipmunk T.10. It now flies fixed wing, civilian maintained Grob Herons.
