The Global Combat Ship (GCS) will replace the Type 23 frigates
It was announced by the Royal Navy on 20 Jul 2017 that the Type 26 will be known as the City Class. The hangar can handle up to Merlin size helicopters but the flight deck will be able to accept a Chinook.
