On the Coast Guard section you have a picture of a Bell HTL-1 on wheels. The Coast guard had two of them and I flew in and maintaind both of them. One was based at USCG Air Station Traverse City, Mich. and the other at USCG Air Station Miami, Fla.Most of my association with the Traverse City bird was on the Icebreaker Mackinaw on the Great lakes and the other on the CGC Eastwind in Greenland and Ellesmere Island in the far North of Canada. Both were lost in crashes.

Unfortunately my question isn't directly related to the helicopter nature of this web site, but I had several questions that I thought maybe might be able to get answered here. I was wondering if someone could send me some designs or some quations on ramjet engines. I am currently working on a project in an Aviation class and would appreciate any information that is available. Thank you. Please reply to demos19@bolt.com ~Dæmos~

Does anyone have any information on the 1874 Achenbach design for a single rotor helicopter with a tail rotor to counteract torque?

The web site states "V-22 Osprey is a compound [helicopter] which can achieve very high speeds, and shows every sign of a bright operational future." Hmmm. For every V-22 built, there have been two people killed flying them. I don't think the prospects are good. In fact, this aircraft stays aloft not by any force other than special interests and tax dollars. This is a simple pork-barrel project.Start with a horribly flawed base concept. Add decades of bureaucratic design-by-committe. Bandage all the flaws that have killed people so far. Keep pumping the tax dollars into it. And there you have the V-22, chief engineer: Rube Golberg.Just because it flys doesn't mean it's a beautiful thing.Dalebert

Does anyone know when foward thrusters were introduced? I recently had a disaggreement with a Navy man who insisted that heilicopters always had a means of foward thrust and never rlied on the rotors.

I'm looking for any information regarding the safety of shoulder harness use with passenger seating in Bell 204/205's. As the seats are designed to collapse on hard landings, how would they effect the wearer.
