I saw a Hiller helicopter at the aircraft display at Dulles Airport Va. One person and large counterrotating blades. Rotar blades on one shaft. This simple design must have problems. Does anyone know more. Thanks

Regarding the question, 'why do helicopter pilots sit in the right-hand seat, while airplanes pilots sit in the left seat?' - a very simple and logical answer: in earlier helicopter models, and in most of today's smaller models, having the collective stick on the left side made it awkward for the pilot to enter and exit his seat, having to step over the collective control stick either way. Thus entering and exiting from the right side made more sense. Plus, it simplified the collective control linkage system.

Hello!I am doing a research project and am wondering whether there is any relationship between the helicopter and the ceiling fan - I mean their rotor blades. Do they both use a similar technology?? I am just looking for basic information, not really technical. Many thanks.

hi, i'm lili.from malaysia.i'm an undergraduate in a local
university.taking mechanical-aeronautics course.
this semester i'm assigned to design and fabricate a helicopter model.
my lecturer required us to make this helicopter to perform like these:
- using fully battery powered motor or engine.
- hovering at height 3 metres for 2 minutes.
- make movement like move forward or backward or
turning in the air for 10 minutes.
- maximum weight :2kg
- payload :0.5kg
- the material for the fuselage and blade is bamboo.
- no mechanical power system and linkage
- blade: any NACA series or any other series available
hmm...it's sound hard for my group members and i coz we're just new in aero
field actually.we all are just enter our fourth year study, just finish taken the
basic mechanical subjects and this sem just start to take all aero subjects...
hmm..so i would like to ask from anyone of u who has this making helicopter
model experience or any
contributive ideas to help my group..
if u have any info can e mail me to:

Does anyone know if it would have been possible for someone to see a helicopter in the Ranton area of Stafforshire in 1954? I've been speaking to some people who believe they did but if so where would it have been flying from etc. Any comments or info gratefully received either on or off list.ThanksAndy
