Canada firm to make Cormorant helicopter parts
WINNIPEG, Canada ( Reuters ) - Bristol Aerospace, a subsidiary of Canada's Magellan Aerospace Corp, said on Monday it had won a C$7.2 million contract to supply parts to two of the world 's largest helicopter manufacturers.
Bristol said it had also received a mandate to manufacture the parts for all future Cormorant sales.
The Canadian government is awaiting delivery of 15 Team Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopters, to be manufactured by Britain's GKN Westland Helicopters and Italy's Agusta.
``Team Cormorant is placing today a $7.2 million order with Bristol Aerospace Limited to manufacture composite transmission and engine cowls for the Cormorant Helicopter,'' Bristol said.
``This exclusive arrangement with Team Cormorant, combined with previous commitments, is likely to lead to more than C$60 million in business for Magellan Aerospace Corporation,'' it said.
Canada's defense department is expected to take delivery of the first two Cormorant helicopters in early 2001.
Agusta, a Finmeccanica company of Italy, and GKN Westland Helicopters designs, develops and manufactures helicopters.
Team Cormorant last week announced a $9.7 million order with Fleet Industries, an Ontario-based Magellan company, to make the lower forward fuselage for the new helicopter.

Note :
The EH101 is in full production in both Italy and the UK with close to
100 aircraft ordered or delivered. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police took
delivery of the first civil EH101 in March 1999, while 15 EH101
Cormorants have been ordered by Canada for their demanding long-range
search and rescue service.
