Nordics ask for offers on military helicopters

HELSINKI, Finland ( Reuters ) - Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden will on Monday send a request for offers to five manufacturers for military transport, rescue and anti-submarine helicopters, the Finnish defence ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement the tenders for joint Nordic helicopter procurement would be submitted to British EH-Industries, French Eurocopter and NH-Industries, and Boeing and Sikorsky from the United States.

It said the joint procurement covered 50 to 100 helicopters of nine to 15 tonnes, and that the aim was to purchase standard helicopters that could be modified for national needs.

Offers are expected by April 2000 and contracts could be signed by the end of next year, it said.

It has earlier said that the first helicopters would be delivered in 2003.
