Colombia to Get 30 More BLACK HAWK helicopters
STRATFORD, Conn., USA ( Sikorsky Press Release ) -
Two contracts worth more than $221.5 million to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation were signed this month to provide a total of 30 S-70 BLACK HAWK helicopters to the government of Colombia by the end of 2001.

A contract for 16 aircraft for Colombia was signed Dec. 15. The primary purpose of these aircraft will be support of "Plan Colombia," the U.S.-backed initiative to fight narcotic trafficking.
All 16 aircraft will be delivered between July and December 2001. The contract value to
Sikorsky is $115.6 million. The transaction uses State Department funding administered as a
Foreign Military Sale (FMS).
Separately, a contract for 14 BLACK HAWK aircraft was signed Dec. 14. Deliveries will start this year and be completed by the end of 2001. The contract, funded by the Colombian government
using an FMS mechanism, has a value to Sikorsky of $105.9 million.
In their counter-narcotics role, the BLACK HAWK helicopters can reach the altitudes necessary to eradicate the coca and poppy in the Andes Mountains, where it is grown and sometimes processed.
BLACK HAWK helicopter variants, including naval derivatives, are serving, or have been selected by 25 international customers — Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, People's Republic of China, Spain, The Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.
