MTU-German army engine order worth 430 mln dml

FRANKFURT, Germany ( Reuters ) - DaimlerChrysler engine-making unit MTU said on Friday it and partner firms would receive around 430 million marks from a major government engine order for Tiger helicopter gunships.

The German government's army technology office signed a deal on Thursday to buy MTU Turbomeca Rolls-Royce GmbH (MTR) MTR390 engines used in the production of the Tiger helicopter, developed jointly by France and Germany.

MTR is a joint venture of European engine-makers MTU, Turbomeca and Rolls Royce.

Rolls-Royce wins 25 mln pound contract

UK ( Reuters ) - The contract was signed between the German Ministry of Defence Technology and Procurement and MTU Rolls-Royce Turbomeca GmbH.

Production work for the contract will take place in facilities of the firms MTU Munchen, Turbomeca and Rolls-Royce, which are all involved in the production of the engines. Deliveries of the helicopters would take place between 2000 and 2001.

``The contract covers the production of the first batch, which is a major boost for the MTR partners' production lines in France, Germany and the UK,'' said Hans Fischer, MTR Managing Director.

Rolls-Royce Turbomeca, an Anglo-French venture, said last week it won a 30 million pound contract with the UK's Defence Helicopter Support Authority.
