    A medium general purpose helicopter aimed at the civil market with military applications, based on Lynx dynamic components with a large volume fuselage

  • June 1980: Westland and Agusta form European Helicopter Industries to manage the design, development and production of a new helicopter. (EH-101)

  • June 14, 1984: Lynx 3 A Utility helicopter, basically a Lynx with an extended cabin, revised rear fuselage and wheeled landing gear. One prototype/demonstrator was built and flown as a private venture powered with 2 Rolls-Royce Gem 60-1 turboshafts (1,260 hp)

  • August 9, 1985: First flight of BERP (British Experimental Rotor Programme) composite rotor blades.

  • August 11, 1986: Lynx with BERP blades achieves the
    Absolute World Speed Record for helicopters:
    400.87 km/h


  • October 9, 1987: EH-101 Page
    First flight of Pre-production aircraft PP-1.
    The EH-101 was designed from the outset to be capable of Civil and Military roles without compromise. The aircraft to be designed, developed and marketed jointly by Agusta and Westland working through EHI.

  • February 12, 2001:
    AgustaWestland formed

    The completion followed both the agreement drawn up by Finmeccanica SpA of Italy and GKN plc of the UK on July 26 2000 and the subsequent European regulatory approvals. The Joint Venture company is 50% each owned by Finmeccanica and GKN. AgustaWestland is a single European company trading as Agusta SpA in Italy and as Westland Helicopters Ltd in the UK.
