1968-01-25 | 25jan68 she flew her last combat mission as HMM-164 /YT-6: insertion and medivac extractions of recon team Quizmaster 1Btn, Recon (Rein) 4th Plt, Co. C HMM-164 | ||
25jan68 I was the Crew Chief on /YT-6. This lady gave her all that day. We pulled out two recon teams who were in deep trouble plus one medivac. I was able to take photos and chronicle her last days heroics. Her last crew was the X.O. Major Bob Nelson, Lt. Tim Timmons, gunner Gerry Sieudzinski and me. The last time I saw her was on 2 June, 1968 she was a mess and was being canabalized it seems. She was woefully parked in front of the island of the Valley Forge as she was being towed away from a CH-46 from another CH-46 from HMM-265 that crashed and rolled over while still tied down in the chocks on the forward flight deck of the Valley.
