My father was the original pilot of this ship. Patricia Ann is my mother. My dad got in big trouble painting her name in white ink. My father died in 1988. It is crazy seeing this now after so many years.
Strangely enough my Father piloted a Cobra with Patricia Ann painted on it as well? His name is Harry McCloud (Call Sign “Red”) and he was the Gun Platoon Leader for A Troop 1/9th Cav in ‘68 - ‘69. They flew out of LZ Sharon just west of Quang Tri. There is a video of this aircraft flying in country called something to the effect of “10 Greatest Military Helicopters”. Pops remembers when the reports came and stayed with them for an extended period of time. There is also a book with that aircraft picture
Jun69-Jun70, I was stationed at Vinh Long RVN. I was a pilot {CW2} and I am almost positive this was my aircraft. I flew it to Tan Son Nhut outside Saigon for it to be sent back to the U.S. and totally rebuilt or reconfigured. Didn't have a whole lot of power but it kept me out of the Mekong river when I reloaded full ammo and full fuel and tried to takeoff from a riverboat on a very humid day. water droplets on the canopy but she got transitional lift. great ol aircraft
