1978-12-14 | 14dec78 splashed in the Gulf of Mexico due to a generator fire. Safely landed and evacuated. She later rolled over due to sea state. ARSC rebuilt and she flew again. Enroute to Davis Monthan AFB in 1992 for the bone yard A/C had a failed torque meter filter bowl and forced to land near Ft. Bragg on Mendicino shore. Due to remote location repairs were not feasible so aircraft was disassembled and trucked out![]() | |||
1980-12-25 | APASI | M/V Lee Wang Zin accident 1979-1980 asg CGAS Sitka, Alaska a/c 1480 was the first aircraft on scene on a rescue mission for the grounding of the 730 ft ore carrier M/V Lee Wang Zin 50 miles south of Ketchican, Alaska. All 33 crew members were lost I was an aircrewman on this mission - PO2 Collins. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka ![]() | ||
Sad to say the museum said coast guard colors werent for them so they sprayed it with a crappy cammo scheme and took off external parts to make it look like a USAF Jolly Green![]() | ||||
