Opened in Dec 1936 as war clouds were gathering in Europe. The site closed as an RAF station at the end of Mar 1977, passing to the Army as Normandy Barracks. There remains an RAF enclave, operating the Search and Rescue service, until it passes to Bristow in 2016.
