Constructed towards the end of the 19th Century, Seaton Barracks has seen its fair share of military activity. A partial list of based units reads like a roll call of distinction:
Nov 1966 - Mar 1969, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
pre-1974 - 1995, 59 Independent CDO Sqd, Royal Engineers
In the rush to sell off the family silver, the site was disposed of in 1995, before there was any real plan to develop it and although the surroundings have become part of a business and medical park, the northern part of the site with the old parade ground, workshops and motor pool was effectively still unused by Dec 2016, despite a series of false starts loudly announced and quietly forgotten.
