The HT-17, as they are known in Spanish service, were originally bought as CH-47C in 1973 being Spain the first international customer of the Chinook. They were upgraded to D standard from 1989. In 1991 after the first gulf war were deployed to Irak, in 1999 to Kosovo and from 2005 to Afghanistan.
In 2013 they celebrated 40 years with the Spanish Army. In 2018, were announced plans to upgraded the 17 Chinooks to the CH-47F variant.
