HM Coastguard AW189

Owned and operated by Bristow, the AW189 was due to have entered service in 2015 but the full icing protection system (FIPS) certification was only granted on July 2016. Starting in March 2017, Lee-on-Solent was the first base to operate the aircraft with scheduled fielding announced as follows: Prestwick, Lydd, St Athan and Inverness

Prestwick Starts Operations with AW189, 04-Jul-17 : HM Coastguard search and rescue (SAR) helicopter base in Prestwick, operated by Bristow, started flying the new Leonardo AW189 on Saturday July 1st, 2017

Coastguard Prestwick Received AW189, 02-May-17 : The first of two AW189 helicopters operated by Bristow for the Coastguard is set to arrive soon at Prestwick airport in Scotland to start operations next July in replacement of the S-92

AW189 SAR Variant Achieves EASA Certification, 23-Dec-14 : AgustaWestland announce it has achieved European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification for the Search and Rescue variant of the AW189 paving the way for the UK search and rescue programme
