The West German Government placed an order for 50 Bristol Sycamore Mk.52 on 8 Mar 1957. Initially 46 were for the Luftwaffe and 4 were to follow, for the Marineflieger.
Eventually, 12 went on to serve with the Seenotstaffel and many of these were passed on to MFG 5.
