In December 2022, the Bell V-280 Valor won the US Army FLRAA competition against the Sikorsky/Boeing Defiant X.
The MV-75 is designed with a modular open systems approach (MOSA) which encourage competition that will grow the supply base supporting the aircraft.
As of May 2024, the first unit is scheduled to be fielded in FY31.
In May 2025, the V-280 received the US Army's official mission-design series designator (MDS) of MV-75.
As of March 2026, the program is in an "overdrive" acceleration phase to field the aircraft years ahead of the original 2030s target. First prototype delivery for testing is expected by the end of the year.
Key Delivery Dates:
- 2027: Aiming for the first flight of a prototype.
- 2028: Targeted date for initial deliveries and Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP).
- First Unit: The 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell is slated to be the first unit equipped with the MV-75.
