US Army, February 16, 2019 - MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, ROMANIA - UH-60 Black Hawks with 3rd Attack Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment (3-1 AHB), 1st Combat Aviation Brigade (1CAB), 1st Infantry Division (1ID) from Fort Riley, Kansas arrived at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base (MKAB), Romania on February 16, 2019.
The unit will participate in upcoming training exercises with Romanian, Bulgarian, and Latvian troops.
the 1CAB had a phased arrival over the first two weeks of February. Around 80 aircraft, including Chinooks and Apaches, arrived by ship from the United States. The helicopters departed Chièvres Air Base, Belgium, Feb. 7, 2019. Chièvres served as an intermediate staging area before the Brigade deployed to Germany, Poland, Latvia and Romania.
The aviation unit is in Eastern Europe to support Atlantic Resolve.
Operation Atlantic Resolve builds readiness, increases interoperability and enhances the bonds between ally and partner militaries with multinational training events in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
Since April 2014, U.S. Army Europe has led the Department of Defense’s Atlantic Resolve land efforts by bringing units based in the U.S. to Europe for nine months at a time.
There are approximately 6,000 Soldiers participating in Atlantic Resolve at any given time. 1CAB marks the fourth rotation of a U.S. aviation brigade presence in Europe supporting Atlantic Resolve.
