Caverton Helicopters Signs Contract for Three AW139s

AgustaWestland, June 23, 2011 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that Caverton Helicopters of Nigeria has recently signed a contract for three AW139 medium twin engine helicopters.

The aircraft will be used for offshore transport duties in support of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. This order further strengthens the presence of AgustaWestland in Nigeria where the company has already supplied 18 helicopters for government and commercial applications.

Patrick Chabrat, Vice President Sales Sub-Saharan Region, AgustaWestland said “We are happy to add another important operator to our list of customers. This sale will expand our presence in the Nigerian helicopter market and in the oil and gas market in Western Africa. We are confident that more AW139s will be flying in Nigeria and neighbouring countries in the near future, not only in the oil and gas market but for other roles as well.”

Caverton Helicopters CEO Mr. Sola Falola, said “It gives us great pleasure to introduce the AgustaWestland AW139 into our growing fleet. Having invested in the best-in-class fleet of aircraft, we are confident that the AW139 will be pivotal to ensuring that we continue improving the support we offer our customers. This order further strengthens our strategy to operate the youngest fleet of rotary-wing aircraft in the sub Saharan African region and going forward, the AW139 will form the backbone of our offshore fleet.”

AgustaWestland is continuing its efforts to make the AW139 an even more competitive helicopter for the benefit of operators by introducing a range of upgrades as well as new role equipment. Developments introduced include a Maximum Gross Weight increase to allow higher payload and longer range missions, the unique Full Icing Protection System for real all weather capabilities and a 4-axis AFCS with SAR modes. The offshore market, where more than one third of AW139 sales have been logged so far, will be able to take advantage of many of the product enhancements AgustaWestland is implementing to improve the AW139’s capabilities.

State-of-the-art technology, outstanding performance, low operating costs and the only helicopter in its class to meet the latest safety standards, have made the AW139 the helicopter of choice in the medium twin market. The AW139 is a new generation medium twin-engine helicopter offering unmatched performance, capacity and safety. Over 150 customers from more than 50 countries have ordered over 540 helicopters to perform a wide range of roles also including offshore transport, EMS/SAR, VIP/corporate transport, law enforcement, utility and government missions.

Headquartered in Lagos, Caverton Helicopters is the first wholly indigenous civil helicopter company to work in the oil and gas industry. Operating from facilities around the country Caverton Helicopters provides a range of services including transportation, maintenance, search and rescue and related services to the offshore as well as other business sectors.
