PZL-Swidnik, April 18, 2012 - PZL-Świdnik SA, an AgustaWestland company, is pleased to announce that the AW149, the sole new-generation multipurpose military helicopter in its category designed with the significant contribution of PZL-Świdnik Engineering Department, was presented to aviation specialists during a technical conference dedicated to a range of rescue applications. The event, held at the Polish Air Force Academy in Dęblin, marks the beginning of an AW149 demonstration tour in Poland aimed at showing its outstanding capabilities as the best solution to meet the Polish Armed Forces requirements.

The next generation AW149 military helicopter has been presented during the conference designated “Medical rescue and assistance from the air in the state security system”, devoted to the latest achievements and experience of the civil and government services in MEDEVAC procedures.

During the AW149 presentation and flight display, the guests attending the conference in Dęblin were allowed to admire a range of manoeuvres highlighting the incredible capabilities, power and handling qualities of the aircraft.

The conference also provided an opportunity to underline the inherent characteristics of the AW149 to perform the largest spectrum of medical and rescue missions. Thanks to its excellent performance, payload, safety and the very latest in mission systems and avionics for the task, the AW149 has been conceived since the very beginning also as a rescue-oriented helicopter by design.

The AW149 is a 21st century’s helicopter, a latest generation twin-engine aircraft featuring outstanding performance and capabilities. The AW149 is a platform designed for a range of applications, such as peace missions, combat support operations, tactical transport of troops and materials, SAR and CSAR, MEDEVAC/CASEVAC, command and control. The AW149, as the best solution for the Polish military, has a chance to open up a brand new chapter in the history of the Polish aviation industry and of the Świdnik plant. PZL-Świdnik has participated in the design works since their very beginning involving several engineers within the framework of the AW149 programme. A Polish-designed product, the AW149 can be manufactured, serviced and made evolve further for the future needs of the Polish Armed Forces in PZL-Świdnik, the only Polish aviation company to design, develop and produce advanced rotorcraft technologies and products.

“It is for us a great honour to present the state-of-the-art multirole AW149 helicopter, which we believe is the only latest generation solution which can meet the Polish Armed Forces requirements, the result of a broad collaboration between PZL-Świdnik and AgustaWestland engineers. With over 60 years of experience and excellence in the rotorcraft sector and a well established and long standing successful partnership with the Polish Army, PZL-Świdnik could now play an even larger and more important role in this field through the AW149 programme with unique benefits to the Polish industry and Armed Force’s operational capabilities,” said Mieczysław Majewski, President of PZL-Świdnik, during the official presentation.

PZL-Świdnik is the only Polish company with full capabilities to design, develop and produce helicopters of its own design. It also has its own Research and Development Centre. The Company, with more than 3500 employees, is the biggest aviation manufacturer in Poland and one of the biggest employers in Lubelszczyzna.
