Safran, October 10, 2024 - On September 26th, Safran Helicopter Engines has received the validated type certificate (VTC) for the Arrano 1A engine from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). This is the second VTC obtained in China by Safran Helicopter Engines this year, after the Aneto-1K engine in May.

The Arrano 1A is the exclusive engine for the state-of-the-art, medium-segment Airbus Helicopters’ H160. It has been certified in Europe, the United States, Brazil, India and 11 other countries around the world.

Arrano 1A’s certification in China will significantly support the H160's entry into service in the Chinese market.

Marc DELORT, General Manager of Safran Helicopter Engines, said “The certification of the Arrano 1A in China shows Safran Helicopter Engines full commitment to allow a fast entry into service of the H160 on the local market. Benefiting from a strong footprint in China, our team will provide the best support services for the operation of this engine to GDAT, the H160 helicopter launch customer in China, and to all future operators. I am very confident that this engine, addressing various missions such as Oil&Gas, EMS or private and business aviation, will receive a warm response from the Chinese market.”

Arrano 1A is a new generation 1,300 shp engine incorporating the latest technology. It is also the most efficient and competitive engine in its power range.

Arrano offers 15 % reduction in fuel consumption over other in-service engines. Its innovative design features a new-generation digital control system that offers greater in-flight responsiveness, enhancing both safety and pilot handling. The gyratory combustion chamber features fuel injectors made using additive manufacturing (3D-printing) techniques. These enhance engine start performance in all weathers and altitudes, and contribute to reducing emissions.

The Arrano is already certified to operate without restrictions with up to 50% of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), like all Safran engines.
