SaxonAir, May 25, 2022 - Geneva, Switzerland, - SaxonAir, the UK’s independent business aviation operator, confirmed its order for the Agusta AW109 GrandNew helicopter on EBACE’s opening day, Monday, 23 May.

The newest variant, due to ship in the first quarter of 2023, with registration G-KLNA , replaces SaxonAir’s 2016 AW109SP, which was delivered only in 2016.

Norwich-based SaxonAir, which also has bases at London Stansted, London Biggin Hill Airports and Denham Aerodrome for helicopter operations initially committed to helicopters in December 2021.

The Leonardo AW109 GrandNew is a premium lightweight twin-engine aircraft. high performance helicopter. With a fairly large and well-appointed cabin, it can comfortably accommodate six passengers in VIP seating.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our nearly decade-long relationship with SaxonAir, bringing their second new AW109SP helicopter into service,” said John Parnell, director of sales at UK and Irish distributor Sloane Helicopters. The AW109 GrandNew is the British company’s highly sought-after flagship aircraft with a generous range of 917km and a maximum cruising speed of 156 knots (180mph).

SaxonAir has also extended its third-party maintenance agreement with Sloane Helicopters, which has been actively supporting Leonardo in sales and maintenance since 1995, to support the types already delivered.

SaxonAir has offset the carbon emissions generated by all its helicopter flights as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability. Now, the company is considering introducing a potential mobile sustainable fuel aviation (SAF) bowser to support its growing operations.

“This commitment to the AW109SP GrandNew is a major milestone in the development of SaxonAir Helicopters, which has grown from a fixed-wing business for more than 20 years in response to client requests to provide the last mile of personal travel – door-to-door,” commented SaxonAir CEO Alex Durand.

About 20% of SaxonAir’s business jet customers also regularly charter helicopters. Domestic and Northern European destinations are popular, especially Paris and Amsterdam, plus shuttle services from East Anglia and Home Counties to The London Heliport. Helicopter rentals have grown at the rate of fixed-wing activity, he added. In certain corporate sectors (where airlines and rail operators have reduced services) the growth is even higher.

This will be the fifth AW109SP Series managed by SaxonAir and its second aircraft as its owner. Christopher Gerskowitch of SaxonAir, head of helicopter flight operations, highlighted: “The AW109 is the de facto standard corporate helicopter in the UK. We are well positioned to provide assistance to UK AW109SP owners – if their helicopter is in maintenance we can offer the same type of fleet and if they need a pilot with a type rating as well, we can provide a company crew member.”

Helicopter charter customers also benefit from SaxonAir’s broader jet charter business, aircraft management, FBO and offshore helicopter support services and training expertise.

SaxonAir Helicopters manages assets on behalf of private owners and arranges charters through charter brokers and direct clients. The company is a trusted provider and advisor to clients and is committed to providing safety, sustainability, quality and price.

It currently has a total of six light twin executive helicopters including one Airbus ACH 125 and hopes to add a seventh by the summer of 2023.
