Helis, June 23, 2018 - After nine months of training, Second Lieutenant Viviana Yesenia Forero Moncada becomes the first female helicopter pilot officer the Colombian National Army and the agent Yuriana Arnesto Segura in the first female helicopter pilot of the Air Surveillance Service of Costa Rica.
Forero Moncada has been in the Army for four years now having been previously in military intelligence, is a native of Cajicá (Cundinamarca) and has entered the Army Aviation School on February 10, 2017.
She successfully passed the basic military pilot course and continued to the Joint Armed Force Helicopter School to fly in the Bell TH-67 Creek. Now her goal is to complete the transition to the UH-60 Black Hawk.
Nowadays, almost a hundred Colombian military women perform functions of flight, maintenance, air traffic, air safety, logistics and aviation medicine. The Army has two women with the rank of general. In the Army Aviation, the first female helicopter maintenance technician was Sergeant Major (R) Mayerlin Parra.
Part of the same training course, Yuriana Arnesto Segura, 27 years old and native from Colonia Palmareña, completed too her 9 months of training in Colombia to become the first female pilot at the Costa Rica’ Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea (SVA). She will make the transition to fly in the MD Helicopters of the air unit.
