Paraclete Aviation Life Support, October 22, 2020 - Clarksville, TN - Paraclete Aviation Life Support, aviation helmet manufacturer, secured certifications for two of its helicopter helmet models, the Aegis D Type 1 and the Aspida D Type 1, as set forth by the Department of Interior (DOI) and the United States Forest Services (USFS) civilian helmet aviation standard.
Expanding on the company’s commitment to high-quality aviation safety standards, Paraclete also achieved their ISO 9001:2015 certification in December 2019 providing design, development, and manufacture of Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE), as well as education and training services. The -D indicates that the helmet models are qualified for use by DOI-USFS.
“Our entire mission is designing aviation helmets with innovation, technology, and modern composites for the purpose of protection and comfort,” said Paraclete President and Founder, U.S. Army CW5 Ret. J. Scott Hedges.
“For a helmet to fit properly, the opening under the chin and back of the head (adjustable nape) should be small enough so the head cannot slip out,” said Hedges. “This is in accordance with the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratories (USAARL) Report No. 95-20, which is the helicopter helmet test authority for the U.S. Army and most of the Department of Defense.”
Paraclete’s understanding of these tenets led to the design of all its products, culminating in the company’s Aegis and Aspida helmets, both of which received certification meeting the requirements of the DOI-USFS civilian aviation helmet standard.
“Prior to the required certification standard mandated by the DOI-USFS, our Aspida and Aegis helmets were already designed with innovative safety features, notably the paradigm-shifting Kairos retention assembly, which provides stability for using NVGs, allowing users to remove their counter-weight bags to reduce the amount of weight, which decreases the potential for neck and back injuries associated with excessive helmet weight,” explained Carlos Andino, MBA, Market Development Director, Paraclete Aviation Life Support.
Designed with innovation, safety and comfort in mind, the helmets’ design is built with a Boa Closure System incorporating stainless steel lace and dial reel to incrementally tighten or loosen the retention assembly, said Andino.
“The solid nape holds it in place without allowing it to slip from the back of the head and keeping the helmet from rolling forward. When the assembly is under tension, Kairos tightens the Paraclete ear cups onto the head, stabilizing the helmet,” he said.
Additional helmet innovative features include the retention, visors lenses that meet or exceed MIL-DTL-43511D, shell, next-to-skin materials, and shape.
