Coptersafety, July 23, 2019 - The two European aviation companies Coptersafety and HeliService have decided to cooperate for the international qualification of trainee pilots.

“We combine first-class training and a state-of-the-art simulator centre at Coptersafety with the experience of real flight missions in state-of-the-art helicopters at HeliService. These are the ideal conditions for the beginning of an international career as a helicopter pilot”, says Oliver Freiland, CEO of HeliService.

At HeliService the trainee pilots become acquainted with the flight operation activities of an aviation company, which is based on a dynamic international team of pilots, technicians, engineers and other specialists in various departments. During this period our trainees are looked after by our pilot John-Michael Assing, who is a qualified flight trainer and works at HeliService in the field of air transportation personnel to offshore wind farms and other areas.

Every course participant at Coptersafety is given a minimum of two hours of real flight as a trainee pilot – and even more, if undergoing initial instrument flight training”, says John-Michael Assing. HeliService provides the training with Leonardo AW169 and AW139 helicopters.

Line Oriented Flight Training

John-Michael Assing himself undergoes simulator training at Coptersafety twice a year and regularly takes part as instructor standardisation programmes at Coptersafety. Forty-three-year-old John-Michael Assing is enthusiastic about the training services that Coptersafety offers to pilots. The facilities of the simulator centre in Helsinki provide the perfect environment to create a realistic scenario for the pilots and to simulate flights here in the German Bight. We are talking about a so-called “Line Oriented Flight Training”.

The helicopter simulators can be tailored precisely to the needs of their customers, regardless of the mission type or the weather scenario. The simulators offer various features for the flightdeck such as vibration and smoke systems, 3D clouds and night scenes that will guarantee offer comprehensive and realistic training. “The Real Flight continues to be a vital component of the training and must not be neglected in any flight training,” Assing points out.

It is not until you fly real missions that you will realise how decisive the working environment is to make the pilot career a success. “The best training is pointless if there is no faith in the smooth interplay between ground handling, dispatch, maintenance and CAMO,” he continues. Trusting one’s own skills and high-quality training are decisive factors in the career of a pilot. But, above all, you need to be certain that you can fully rely on a well-functioning team at any time.

About Coptersafety: Coptersafety is an independent helicopter pilot training provider for commercial, government and private organizations. The company provides simulator training to helicopter pilots around the world at its training facility next to Helsinki Airport. Coptersafety has taken the initiative to genuinely improve pilot training to ensure the safety performance of operators
